One of the concerns the Arizona Department of Education has for Ajo High School is the low graduation rate (Arizona average graduation rate in 2008 was 75%, Ajo was 68%). It is my [Web Design teacher] opinion that the Ajo Unified School District needs your [student] help in the form of suggestions regarding what the school administration needs to do to correct this problem.
The parnents of these children need to pay more attention. Maybe some of them dont really talk to their children about school. Some dont really acknowledge their children. That can be another problem to the school that would make some kids drop out.
Ajo Unified School is a place in which most students like to control the teachers, as much as they want to be lazy and do whatever they want. The students here, need to understand the reasons teachers might want to be strict towards the students or move out of town. Alot of kids don't realize how much a teacher has helped them until it's too late to say sorry to the teacher in which they acted cruely towards. If the school tries to educate the eighth graders and lower, at the same level as other schools in arizona or maybe even california, this school could become one of the top six, rather than the lowest ranked in the state. The school needs to push students harder, they might learn more, but the students that do what is needed should get advantages like, chewing gum if they throw it in the trash, using their cell phones and ipods during class, since most kids work better when they listen to music. I think the school could think of fundraiser's that help get more activities and explorement for learning. Such as field trips, sports, like tennis, soccer, boxing, etc. The school should explain or show the students why they need school to survive, or how the learning could be used after high school and college. Parents should start being more involved for their kids education, and the kids would probably obey teachers more.
Increase daily homework: Homework can help students review what they learned and can also help memorize the lesson better.
Giving advice to students. Making the teachers be more toughtfull and not just think of themselves (Applies only to some teachers)
Talk to students more about the consequinces of dropping out. Dropping out and getting your GED does not hold the same weight as a high school diploma and can be very damaging to your future.
Talk about the pros of college. College can increase your annual income by more than double that of someone with only a high school diploma and probably triple that of someone without one.
Help incorperate students into learning. Teach the students the importance of graduation and make it easier for them to learn their subjects. Include tutoring which should be mandatory for students with a D or below.
Faculty and staff need to be more aware of students that are ditching school. While teachers and other staff members are worrying about the small issues, such as people breaking the dress code, several others are just walking off campus. I don't believe they should just ignore the dress-code breakers, but they need to pay a little more attention to who's walking on and off of campus.
Stop insisting so much on the rules. Everyone knows that most teens are rebelious. The more you force something upon them, the more against it they'll be. For example, cell phones. If you tell students to leave their electronics at home, they bring them more often.
There needs to be more rewarding taking place. If you have bad grades, you get in trouble and constantly pushed to improve. Once you improve, (going from an "F" to an "A" "B" or even a "C" is considered improvement) you don't get rewarded.
More Hands-on Activities. Hands-on Activities Will Catch Students Attentions and They Will be More Interested
Allow Food and Drinks so Kids Have More Brain Fuel. If Students Can Eat And Work They Wnt be Distracted by Hunger
More experiments. Because it the students do it their selfs they will under stand it more
